Sepp Blatter, Your Honour

Sepp Blatter, Your Honour

Sepp is someone I didn’t like much just for one reason: he has stayed too long in F.I.F.A.! To me his name is synonymous to F.I.F.A. I grew up knowing him as the president of the football governing body and he is yet to retire even at the age of 77! The normal question is what is he still doing and waiting for there? And the world thought it’s only Africa that we have life president, what of F.I.F.A.? To me, it’s a Europeans’ log of wood. Yes, a log of wood in their own eye and still they have time to see albeit even clearly the specks in other people’s eye. But, this week Blatter did something that makes me have some beautiful respect for him: he apologised!

During a debate at Oxford University over the respective merit of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Blatter joked that, “one spends more time at the hairdresser’s than the other” practically referring to the former and declaring his preference to the latter. But criticism came about that particular statement, and he was asked for an apology by the club Cr7 played for, and within hours, he tenders it, both to the player personally and to the club openly. As powerful, as huge and great the football controlling body is, all over the world, Blatter, the anchor man still admit wrong personally and give both public and private apologies not minding his age, position, influence and affluence. Yet is it little? No! It’s a sign of greatness as far as I am concerned.

In My part of the world, Africa, it is a very rare thing for leaders to apologise. Yes, when I mean leaders, it starts from the smallest, the home, fathers hardly say they are wrong and say sorry. Now coming to the society and government, it’s a hard thing to come by an apology from the high ranking politicians even either in retrospect.

One of the great marks of great people is their ability to admit wrong and apologize.

Apology is the true mark of maturity that separates Men from Boys!

Daddy and mummy, its time you show your greatness by admitting that wrong.

Mr. Man, its time you let go of that ego that is ruining your relationships... admit it and say it!

Some taught others that apologising reduce your self worth or your authority, but it’s not true, as much as a leader is suppose to be strong and live a life above reproach, and acts in ways to reduce their mistakes, there shouldn’t be reservation when it is truly needed! If Blatter with his age, popularity, position, power, and mighty influence, could apologies that easily, who are you, that saying sorry or I was wrong is an impossibility?

You even do your own reach God, you feel too big to apologize for your misdeeds and sins before Him...
No matter you post o position, now is the time to ask for forgiveness.
It’s time to write and or post that apology letter.
It’s time to own up and make that needed soothing assertion: I am Sorry!
Sepp Blatter, I Hail You!
